Remember, we will always tighten and adjust your glasses at no charge!
There are a lot of options to consider when selecting a new pair of prescription glasses and sunglasses. The best way to select your frame and lenses is to determine your needs based on your lifestyle. Unlike many retail chains, our Optical Shop does not package every option, making you pay for things you do not need. Each pair of glasses purchased from our Optical Shop is customized to your personal and individual needs.
Single Vision: This lens is available in all types of materials. The correction covers one viewing area. The area can be for distance or near vision.
Bifocals: This lens type provides a correction for both far and near vision in one lens. A visible line divides the two areas. There are multiple varieties to choose from; Flat-Top 28, Flat-Top 35, Executive and T.K. Not all styles are available in all lens materials.
Trifocals: Trifocals provide correction for three areas; distance, intermediate and near. This lens style has a double-line dividing the lens into three visible areas.
Progressives: This lens is also known as the “No-Line” Bifocal. Progressive lenses allow you to see at all distances without any visible dividing lines. This lens design provides you with more comfortable, natural vision giving your eyes the ability to focus everywhere you look. Without the visible lines, it is also the most cosmetically pleasing bifocal option.
Industrial / Occupation Lenses / Computer Lens: There are special lenses designed for a number of occupations, hobbies and safety requirements. If you work at a computer for any period of time, you may feel more comfortable with a computer lens.
Sports Lenses: Sports glasses provide safety and performance while enhancing your enjoyment. There are a variety of styles including swim goggles.
Sunglasses: Sunglasses are often used as cosmetic accessories, but should more often be considered Safety Glasses. Sunglasses provide protection to your eyes from the sun. In order for them to be most effective, they should include UV protection.
Plastic: Plastic lenses are lighter and safer than glass lenses. They can be tinted almost any color. Almost all lens designs are available in plastic.
Hi-Index: Advanced technology continues to provide us with thinner and lighter lenses for stronger prescriptions. This allows higher power prescriptions to be made into more comfortable and cosmetically appealing eyewear.
High-Impact Resistant / Polycarbonate: This lens material would be the number one choice of most eyewear professionals. The two reasons are because this lens material is incredibly light in weight and they are the safest lenses available. Hi-Impact Resistant lenses are strongly recommended for children, teens, active adults, safety glasses and anyone who needs superior protection.
Glass: This is the most scratch resistant lens material available. However, glass lenses are much heavier and are the least safe lens material available.
Scratch Resistant Coating: This protects your plastic lens materials from everyday wear and tear. This prolongs the life of your lenses and your investment in good vision. (NOTE: All of our plastic lenses have scratch resistant coating at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE)
Anti-Reflective Coating: This is a special coating that helps reduce reflection. Anti-reflective coatings provide more light transmission, improving the quality of vision, night vision and reduce eye fatigue. This coating not only improves night driving and working on a computer but also offers a cosmetically appealing look to the lenses that makes them seem to “disappear” and shows your eyes more clearly. This coating is also highly recommended on stronger lens prescriptions along with the high-index lens materials to help improve the appearance of the eyewear.
Tints / Adjustable Tints: Light tints are usually used for cosmetic / style purposes. Generally, medium to dark tints are used for sunglasses. Tints are available in almost any color. They can be solid or gradient (are dark on top and gradually get lighter at the bottom). There are lenses that darken to sunglasses in the sunlight and lighten when you go indoors (Transitions).
UV Protection: The sun’s ultraviolet rays can harm your eyes. UV Protection is recommended on all lenses. UV filters protect your eyes the way sunscreen protects your skin. Some lens products promote healthy vision by automatically having UV Protection; such as polycarbonate, polarized sun-lenses and Transition lenses.
Polarized Lenses: This is the best sunglass lens option available. This type of sunglass lens not only dims bright light from the sun, but also helps to eliminate glare. Boaters, fishermen, golfers and drivers benefit greatly from polarized lenses. Water, snow, sand, windows and chrome can create dangerous glare in the sunlight.
